In retaining their Munster Senior Championship crown, the Cork Ladies Football team had many outstanding performers but none more so than Mourneabbey’s Doireann O’Sullivan.

An 0-11 point haul in the final win over Kerry was the stand out moment of an excellent campaign.

In recognition of this feat, the 5 time All-Ireland medal winner was the May winner of the 96FM/C103 GAA Sports Star of the month in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel.

Doireaan was delighted to be honoured and paid tribute to her team mates for their work throughout the Championship. “I would not be here today but for all the hard work put in over the last few months and now having retained our Munster title, we focus on the AlI-Ireland series.”

She also paid tribute to the backroom team led by Coach Shane Roynane.

Francis Kenneally PRO Cork County Board and Marion Crowley Chairperson Cork Ladies Football Board also offered congratulations to Doireann and paid tribute to 96FM/C103 and the Rochestown Park Hotelf or their continued promotion of these prestigious awards.

Family and several members of the victorious team were in attendance to acknowledge a key and influential player for Cork.

Two former monthly awards winners were also in attendance - Cork dual camogie and ladies football star Libby Coppinger and Cork footballer Ian Maguire.

Tom Tobin of Rochestown Park Hotel and Kieran McGeary from 96FM congratulated Doireann on her award and wished the Cork Ladies Football team the very best in the upcoming All-Ireland Championship.

Doireann now joins the previous monthly winners in this the 20th year of the awards scheme. Ballygiblin’s Shane Betson was the January recipient while UCC’s Dylan Foley was the February winner, while Mitchelstown CBS Manager Willie Duggan was the March winner, with Cork Under 20 hurler Eoin Downey picking up the April award.

The gala banquet will be held on 26 January 2024.
