5 grand from the grand dame

A multi sports club for people with physical disability has received a donation of €5,000 from one of Leeside’s best-known hotels.

Rebel Wheelers, a Cork charity striving to make sports available to as many people as possible, relies entirely on fundraising and grant applications to operate.

This week, Cork’s grande dame The Imperial donated the lump sum of €5,000 to the Rebel Wheelers having raised it as part of the hotel’s #BecauseWeCare campaign.

To raise the €5,000, the hotel team took part in a range of activities, including the Cork City Marathon and the Roll With Rebel Wheelers fundraising event, as well as featuring an “invisible cocktail” on the hotel’s

menus.

Proceeds will be put to good use by the club who are constantly fundraising for new sports equipment such as different styles of wheelchairs required for rugby and basketball which also need to be maintained or replaced as the athletes grow older.

Commenting on the donation, Jazz Glennon, Marketing Manager and member of The Imperial’s Green Team, said: “Rebel Wheelers is a fantastic Cork organisation that we are proud to be partnered with.

“We love that they empower young people with a physical disability to enjoy sports.

“We are privileged to have such a positive relationship with the members and volunteers involved in the club and hope our donation to Rebel Wheelers will go some way to expressing our appreciation of all the fantastic work they do.”
