Hopes to repatriate woman killed in Wilton

Efforts are being made to repatriate the body of Deepa Dinamani, who died after being stabbed at her home in Wilton last Friday, 14 July. Ms Dinamani, who was 38 years old and from the southern state of Kerala in India, lived at the residence in Cardinal Court Wilton with her husband and five year old son.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the house at around 10.10pm where she was pronounced dead at the scene. Regin Parithapara Rajan appeared at a special sitting of Cork District Court and was charged with the murder of his wife last Sunday.

Deepa Dinamani, a qualified chartered accountant, held the position of a senior manager in fund services at a company located in Cork Airport Business Park, and had been living in Cork for just three months.

The Indian community in Cork is now actively working towards returning her to India and has asked for assistance. A message from the Cork Pravasi Malayali Facebook page read: “Further to update you all on the repatriation procedure of her body and the repatriation of the child back to India we are liaising with her brother, embassy and the local garda station.

“We request all our community members support as you are all aware of the costs incurred with repatriation. The family have requested our support in whatever way we could as a community.

“We would keep all of you updated and would like to inform you all that an action group has been formulated as a start to deal with the situation with representatives from different organisations in Cork.”

Last Sunday, a candlelit vigil took place outside Ms Dinamani's home, drawing a crowd of 150 people. The attendees paid their respects, leaving flowers and placing a framed picture of her outside her home.
