The Triskel’s throwback delight for Culture Night

If you miss the 1980s, or never experienced it in the first place, the Triskel has a treat in store for you on Culture Night. Take a voyage into the past with their trailer compilation screening, VIVA VHS.

The event will showcase a collection of trailers from classic and delightfully cheesy movies of yesteryear, focusing on the 1980s home entertainment era. It's the perfect opportunity to indulge in a cinematic nostalgia trip on one of the busiest cultural nights of the year.

Chris O’Neill, Head of Cinema at Triskel said: "This is such a fun event, and we look forward to it every year. Screening trailers like this means people can watch for twenty minutes or two hours – and in the past, many have stayed for the full show! "

Triskel Cinema will also treat movie buffs to a screening of ‘Bugsy Malone,’ a gangster movie featuring a 14 year old Jodie Foster and an all-child cast. The film, directed by Alan Parker, originally hit screens in 1976.

Artist Brian Maguire will be at Triskel Gallery Space at 7pm to discuss his latest exhibition "Then I laid the floor." This collaboration with James Concagh and Robert Chase Heishman explores the housing crisis and delves into the self-built family home of Concagh’s in-laws in the Jabaquara community on the outskirts of São Paulo. Heishman's accompanying documentary will also be screened in Triskel Christchurch at 5.30pm, 8.10pm, and 8.30pm on Culture Night.

Triskel is also home to the Cork Traveller Women’s Network, and this year, they invite visitors to their headquarters to explore a virtual exhibition titled ‘Traveller Perspectives – Pride of Place’ which offers unique insights into Traveller culture.

Children also feature in another part of Triskel’s Culture Night offering with an exhibition in the Triskel Foyer created by the young people from Foróige Bishopstown and Curraheen Youth Project who have spent the last few months creating artworks on the Sustainable Development Goals.
