Enterprising event for NWED in West Cork

A major event for female entrepreneurs and businesswomen is to hit Clon this month.

This year’s National Women’s Enterprise Day (NWED) will be celebrated by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) with an initiative for the South West Region hosted by LEOs Cork and Kerry on Thursday 19 October in Dunmore House Hotel, Clonakilty.

The programme is designed and led by women to promote and encourage female entrepreneurship. National Women’s Enterprise Day shines the spotlight on female entrepreneurship and opens the prospect of entrepreneurship to women who may not have considered it before, highlighting the supports available. The event also provides valuable networking opportunities to connect with industry experts together with acknowledging the achievements of women in enterprise.

Dr Niall O’Keeffe, Head of Enterprise, LEO Cork City said: “National Women’s Enterprise Day is a significant event in our calendar each year. A celebration of women entrepreneurs and businesswomen, the event informs and inspires women at all stages of the business development journey.

“The atmosphere last year in Killarney was electric and we expect more of the same in Clonakilty on 19 October. There is another great lineup of speakers and inspirational businesswomen for 2023 and will also provide an opportunity to network and discover what supports are available for entrepreneurs in the region.”

Cork-based Amy Jane Keating, host and creator of the Go Do You podcast will be the day’s MC and facilitator which will include guest speaker Pat Kane (the award-winning sustainability strategist, Founder of Reuzi.ie and Co-founder of Good Better Best). Pat will speak about building a future-proof business, touching on her own entrepreneurial journey whilst highlighting small ways businesses can improve their sustainable practices.

The event also includes an interactive panel discussion of leading lights representing LEOs Cork and Kerry. LEO Cork City will be represented by Kathy O’Dwyer, Founding Director of Career Training Internships. Kathy has a wide range of expertise encompassing business mentorship, career guidance, support for women re-entering the workforce and comprehensive career training for those facing employment barriers.

The panel discussion will be followed by keynote speaker Laura Dowling, fabulous pharmacist and Founder/CEO of fabÜ Wellness. With almost 20 years experience under her belt, Laura aims to share the tools to live a balanced, healthy lifestyle without resorting to short-term crazes or fads.

All sectors and women in business at all stages of their entrepreneurial journey are welcome to the South West event from entrepreneurs with a business idea to start-ups and well-established businesses. Places are limited.
