Leather trench coat from H&M.

Fall for autumn style

I’m back from my holiday in Portugal and have now finally begun to pack away my summer wardrobe. I was doing my best to keep myself in a sunshine and summer state of mind until I had this trip done but now that it’s over, I can truly embrace the autumnal vibes in the wardrobe. I felt like I didn’t get to wear much of my summer clothes this season and so I’m completely cutting back on buying anything for next summer as most of the things I brought away with me I hadn’t worn at all.

I’ve also done a major wardrobe clear-out which badly needed to be done and everything is now stored away in plastic tote boxes on top of the wardrobe. I love this seasonal wardrobe changeover as you get reacquainted with clothes from last year that you forgot you had. It’s shopping in your wardrobe and styling what you already have, and you won’t even have to spend a penny, which of course is ideal.

Here are some of the autumn outfits I’m very excited to be wearing now that the temperature has dipped. Autumn is such a jeans season and I’m loving styling my denim and finding new ways to wear it. It's so simple to make look more expensive; I’ll be wearing my dark wash, straight leg jeans with oversized, half zip, striped knitwear and layering the look with my trench coat that I love wearing year after year.

I’ve never spent a lot of money on my trench coat and I’ve had the same one for years. If you’re looking for an inexpensive one, then I have spotted two nice styles, one from H&M and the other from Penneys and both coming in under fifty euro. I’m also loving shorter tweed jackets at the moment, and these can really dress up your jeans when worn with ballet flats, which are currently having a fashion resurgence or worn with a pair of mules if you fancy a bit of a heel.

If I was to make a jacket purchase this season then it would be the scarf coat; you may have seen the Dunnes Stores black and cream version that sold out recently and is giving Toteme vibes but for a fraction of the price. It's so stylish and looks great worn with black straight leg jeans and black ankle boots.

I’m also absolutely ecstatic to be getting the knitwear dresses out of the wardrobe again and I’ll just ease myself in with some lighter knit ones for the time being but will fully embrace a chunkier knit for the winter. I have a few from over the years that still look good as new but if you’re looking to invest there are so many different styles out there on the high street. With a finer knit and fitted style, the jumper dress can be quite slinky and looks good paired with a heel or high boot. I adore a chunky knit dress worn with a cool boot and I’ll be dressing up my knits with a gold or silver cowboy boot. If you need some waist definition, just add a belt and pop a leather jacket or wool coat over the top. Bring on autumn!
