Unlock a sustainable and equitable future

Many companies looking for an edge have began looking at the importance of ESG (environmental, social and governance) for businesses.

MII Cork (Marketing Institute Ireland, Cork branch) have announced their first event of the season which is focussed on ESG. Unlocking the ABC’s of ESG: Navigating Sustainability and Social Responsibility takes place on Tuesday 24 October at the Clayton Hotel Cork City.

The event will feature a panel of industry experts who will address the growing importance of ESG for businesses, illustrating how best to implement, and communicate, authentic ESG marketing strategies, and the impact they have.

ESG is an umbrella term that covers a wide range of areas, from carbon footprint reduction commitments to equal employment opportunities and ethical corporate practice. ESG was once primarily a concern for large organisations who used it to increase a company’s value.

However, with how conscious consumers now are, it is crucially important for all marketers to pay attention.

According to a recent PwC study, 83% of consumers think companies should be actively shaping ESG best practices and 86% of employees prefer to support or work for companies that care about the same issues they do.

The event will be chaired by Thomas McHugh, Head of Public Affairs and Community at Orsted, who will lead the panel of industry experts in a thought-provoking discussion on navigating the responsibilities of companies with regard to ESG, and how to ensure the message reaches the consumer to effectively develop reputation.

The event will also examine how ESG can boost company value, attract, and retain talent and make tangible difference to local communities. Each speaker will deliver a short presentation before the discussion panel gets underway, and the panellists include:

Maeve McNamara – ESG Manager, Boots Ireland Padraic Vallely – Senior Manager, Rethink Ireland Fionnuala Moran – Sustainability broadcaster, influencer & journalist And further speaker to be announced

MII Cork Chair Ezara Ahern said: “It has never been more important for organisations across all industries to incorporate environmental, social and governance issues into their overall strategy, so I am really excited for our first event of the season to address such a topical subject. Marketers are born storytellers, so we are keen to ensure we are creating and communicating ESG policies in an effective, authentic way. “We have an outstanding panel of speakers, and I would encourage marketing professionals to attend the event and engage in our discussions,” she added.

Panel chair Thomas McHugh added: “ESG policies are a crucial investment for organisations not only from a moral standpoint, but today’s consumers also consider it important that companies take real steps to make the world a better place.

“I’m looking forward to hosting what is sure to be an insightful panel discussion of experienced industry leaders contributing to this important conversation for Cork’s marketing community.”

The event will take place on Tuesday 24 October at 6pm in Clayton Hotel Cork City. Tickets are €15 for MII Cork members and €25 for non-members.
