Nothing beats a roast!

No beef with this charity re-release

People might have thought that selling meat online is a crazy idea but he made it work and since his collaboration with Avoca and Dunnes Stores, his star has been constantly rising.

Not sure what cut to buy for a certain dish? Fear not, head over to www.jameswhelanbutchers.com and you will find information on all parts of the animal to make your dinner extra tasty next to some useful recipes.

His cookbook ‘The Irish Beef Book’ has just celebrated its 10th anniversary and to celebrate, Pat Whelan is releasing a limited edition re-print with proceeds going to Cork Penny Dinners and Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin. The book is a delectable collection of delicious recipes from mid-week dinners, the perfect steak to Sunday roasts with easy to follow recipes and stunning photography that make your tastebuds dance the tango of taste.

‘The Irish Beef Book' by Pat Whelan and Katy McGuinness is available at all good bookshops, online and at Dunnes Stores, priced at €22.99. Pat Whelan said: “It’s wonderful to see ‘The Irish Beef Book’ being reprinted this year to support two very worthy charities in Cork and Dublin, both charities do such incredible work for their communities.

“Food unites people and I hope our contribution this year with the proceeds of ‘The Irish Beef Book’ can help the people who really need support this Christmas. Add this classic cookbook to your collection or gift it to a friend and your kindness will help people this Christmas.”

James Whelan Butchers are celebrating 55 years in business – not an easy feat considering the competition of cheap discount supermarkets. I guess, ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ is what Pat and his team must have thought when they decided to join forces with Dunnes Stores.

I have to admit, the shop in Bishopstown looks stunning with floor to ceiling glass panels that give way to watch the butchers at work – nothing to hide here. I like the fact that you can get cuts not usually available unless you go to the English market – another great location for great Irish produce.

Eoin O’Mahony is a great place to get amazing meat with tips & tricks on how to cook the different cuts – something you can’t get at one the discount supermarkets.

If you can’t make it to Whelan’s or the English Market, ‘The Irish Beef Book’ is the perfect starting point to become a successful meat expert and doing something for charity at the same time.
