Gardaí in Cork seized drugs worth over €150,000 during two searches in the city on Monday.

Man arrested in large drug seizure

Gardaí have arrested a man and seized drugs worth over €150,000 following two searches in Cork city yesterday.

One search was carried out at a premises on Griffin Street where cannabis worth €128,000 was seized along with quantities of cannabis resin, ecstasy, and magic mushrooms.

A man in his 30s was arrested and is currently detained at a garda station in Cork city.

During a follow-up operation, a premises on Gould Street was searched under warrant and a further quantity of cannabis worth approximately €30,000 was seized.

Gardaí will send all of the suspected drugs seized to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

The searches were carried out by the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit based at Anglesea Street Garda Station.

Yesterday’s seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on 2 July 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
