Cork to host major cancer conference

A national conference on cancer will take place in Cork city this weekend bringing together a range of expert speakers and survivors who will share their experiences, stories and expert knowledge on living well through and beyond a cancer diagnosis.

The Irish Cancer Society’s national conference Living Well With and Beyond Cancer is taking place both in-person and online on Saturday 18 November at the Clayton Hotel Silver Springs, Cork city from 10am to 4pm.

The annual conference, which will be hosted by clinical psychologist Dr Eddie Murphy, returns to Cork bringing together a wide range of speakers. Expert speakers will include:

Professor Jack Gleeson, Associate Professor in Medical Oncology, University College Cork & Consultant Medical Oncologist, Cork University Hospital; Veronica McSharry, Oncology Dietician; Dr Claire Kilty, Head of Research, the Irish Cancer Society and many more.

The conference will close with a panel discussion featuring a number of cancer survivors living with and beyond cancer, who will share their personal stories and experiences of their diagnosis and treatment pathways.

Looking ahead to the conference and encouraging people to sign up for free, Corrinne Hasson, Director of Services with the Irish Cancer Society said: “We are delighted and very much looking forward to being back in Cork for our annual Living Well with and Beyond Cancer Conference.

“The conference is completely free to attend and throughout the day, attendees will hear from expert speakers discussing everything from self-care and nutrition, significant advances in cancer research which is now transferring over into clinical care.”

She continued: “As well as hearing from experts, attendees will be able to network, meet other people affected by a cancer diagnosis and share personal experiences. We’re delighted to have been able to bring together an incredible line up of cancer survivors - men and women who have direct first-hand experience of living with and beyond cancer.”

She added: “It promises to be a day packed full empowering and uplifting stories and we’re encouraging anybody impacted by cancer, whether you are a patient and well enough to join us, or you are a survivor, a carer or a loved one of somebody, come along enjoy the day.”
