When you were small, what did you want to be as a grown-up?
Tall, muscular, not bald. Adulthood and mirrors are a continual challenge, let me tell ya.
Tell us about your career progression to your role today:
Actor career progression be like: Ok, left a bit, now, up a bit. STOP! Run on the spot. Who are you again? Reverse a bit, Ok lock hard, lock hard, LOCK HARD! I said, LEFT hand down. Grand. Here's the script.
What is the most enjoyable aspect of what you do?
A script arriving (the excitement of a first read) and then letting your imagination go to town on bringing it from the page to either stage or screen.
What motivates you?
Morbid fear of looking like a gowl.
What advice would you give your 15 year old self?
Bell bottoms will come around again.
If you weren’t in the job you have, what would you be doing?
Brain surgery. They keep asking but I say “NO! I must entertain!”
What is your greatest life or career achievement to-date?
It’s hard to go past the 8 All-Irelands I won with the Dublin footballers. Oh wait...that’s the other Cormac Costello, isn't it? Bugger. I would then default to the Feis Maitiu 1970 under 8s Poetry competition. I forgot a line or three but otherwise NAILED it!
Who has had the biggest influence on you in your life?
Malcolm X.
What is the life dream now?
Mid table respectability.
How do you switch off?
Wine. Also whine. Nothing like a good whinge and moan to de-stress.
What is your favourite Cork memory?
Leaving it to the afternoon of Christmas eve to get the last three presents, followed by tea time pint in the Long Valley.
What is your favourite place in Cork?
Anywhere along the river.
Do you have a favourite quote or motto?
'Never pass a toilet'. The older I get, the more I appreciate the wisdom.
When are you at your happiest? Rehearsing. So, yes, this is me at my happiest. Sigh.
What is your hidden talent? Acting. One day, one day, I'll get it right.
What might we be surprised to know about you?
I've never been fired.
