Plenty of torque in Cork!

Fota Island Resort in Cork recently hosted an event with a real need for speed.

The Porsche roadshow event offered the chance to test drive one of the six car ranges that Porsche has for sale in today in Ireland.

Porsche Centre Dublin - part of the Joe Duffy Motor Group - who also now owns CAB Motor Company in Cork, held an invite only roadshow event, which two Cork Independent team members attended.

Deputy Sales Manager Alan Gould and Account Manager Tim Twomey drove in style in a top of the range 718 Porche during the event. This model has a starting price tag of just over €100,000 and was a lovely model to test drive in this two-seater car.

The range on display included the well-known 911, the Taycan, and the Panamera. People who attended were treated to not only a test drive in the car of their choice, but also to witness some of the most exquisite cars made by Porsche.

“As soon as you sat into the car, you knew this was going to be an experience,” Alan Gould said. “We left the hotel grounds and went as far as Midleton, which has a 120km speed limit, but the car was almost at that speed without knowing it, so quickly.”

“This 2 litre engine can go from 0 to 100kmph in 5.1 seconds, but we took about 5 minutes as we were so careful,” laughed Alan.

With a top speed of 275kmph, Tim knew it had power so he “started his test drive off as slow as possible to enjoy the test drive for as long as possible,” he said.

Various other models were also on display at the hotel with some lucky members of the public getting to snap themselves with many of the cars on show at the hotel during the two day event. One car on display, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, had a starting price of €355,406 before any add ons or personalised features.

Following the test drives, attendees got the chance to try their hand with a state-of-the-art VR car experience. Immersing the driver into the virtual world of a Porsche, using its true potential of speed, torque and horsepower on a race track, in a one-of-a-kind gaming environment.

The winner of the fastest lap was awarded a day trip to Mondello Park. Neither Tim nor Alan got the fastest lap times, but did fell like children again when using the gaming experience to relive their youth and their car gaming days.
