The Toy Show must go on for Freya!

A broken arm won't stop her from performing on Friday night.

Despite a broken arm, talented Freya Hogan from Glanmire is determined to shine on 'The Late Late Toy Show' this weekend.

The nine year old is poised to make her family – mother Alise, father Steven, and brothers Graham and Ezra – proud as she graces the stage at the RTÉ Studios on Friday night.

Freya, who is a student in Gaelscoil Uí Drisceoil, will be showcasing her talents as part of a group performance, and she will also get her very own solo spot during the song.

“It’s one of the bigger performances of the night,” said Steve.

Ever since she was a tot, Freya has had a love for being on stage and it will be a dream come true to perform on The Toy Show, which for the first time ever will be hosted by Patrick Kielty.

Freya’s uncle recorded clips of her singing 'Trasna na Donnta' and parents Steve and Alice decided to send them to RTÉ, where her performance caught the eye of producers. “She was brought to Dublin for an audition and was all excitement. She was nervous, but was fantastic, She did us proud,” said Steve.

“We were waiting for 2 or 3 weeks and preparing her for the fact that sit might not happen. She was absolutely over the moon when she found out she got through,” he added.

Unfortunately for the talented youngster, things took an unexpected turn for the worst as Freya broke her arm during gymnastics training three weeks ago. “She had to go for surgery in CUH and a rod had to be place up through her arm to keep the bones together. RTÉ contacted us straightaway and told her not not to worry, that they still had a place for her,” says Steve.

“She was in surgery on a Thursday, they kept her in overnight as it was complicated, but she was back rehearsing on Sunday in Dublin. She’s a little trooper,” added Alice.

Although it’s been a tough time for brave Freya, her parents says she is on the mend and ready for her big performance on Friday night.

“It’s a bit of a battle and the first few weeks were a struggle but she is not in much pain anymore, she’s fine now. She has a big red cast and we decorated it with the Toy Show,” they say.

Steve mentioned that the family has received an outpouring of well-wishes from those looking forward to see Freya perform. However, he also acknowledged that it will be a "bittersweet" moment for him, as tragically, his cousin, Leading Seaman Conor Kiely, passed away on the LÉ Róisín last week.

"Unfortunately, my cousin passed away on the navy ship last weekend; we had the funeral earlier this week. It’s bittersweet, it was very bad news, but we have a lot to look forward to too," he said.

The family, including six year old Graham and 11 month old Ezra will be heading to Dublin to watch their sister perform, and Steve says they can’t wait to see her have her big moment on live tv. “We are going up on Thursday for the dress rehearsal and Friday for the show, so it’s all excitement. We even got our Toy Show pyjamas in Penneys during the week!” he said.

'The Late Late Toy Show' airs Friday 24 November at 9.35pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
