Festive flair for the party season

I know I for one like to invest my wardrobe spend on everyday pieces but there are times when we want something new to get us through but ideally these pieces are going to be items that you’ll wear again and again. Sequins and sparkle are always glam but there are other sartorial avenues you can explore when it comes to bringing the glamour to your Christmas nights out.

I’m obsessed with metallics and while it’s undoubtedly a hot trend at the moment, it's also one that I don’t see going anywhere soon. Silver and gold trousers and skirts are easier to wear than you might think and look great dressed up or down. I bought a pair of gold trousers a few years back and I still get great wear out of them and a silver pair I bought in Penneys are now an absolute staple in my wardrobe.

Both metallics look chic and effortless on a night out paired with simple silky camis, band t-shirts and oversized blazers, then just add your favourite heels or a boot and you’re good to go. The jeans also work well with trainers and chunky knits for day time or with a white shirt so it really is something that you can rock from day to night. I’ve also recently bought a silver midi skirt and have worn that with a sweatshirt tucked in and some boots. Although I would say if it’s between the skirt or the jeans I do get more wear out of the metallic trousers.

I also love a tighter silhouette for party season and a tight fitting, mesh dress is up there when it comes to a look that makes an impact but is surprisingly comfortable and easy to wear.

Next are particularly good for this sort of party guna and have a selection in various eye catching prints that flatter all body shapes. They are stretchy with a little bit of ruching that makes then super flattering with room for dinner. Always a bonus in my opinion. They work well with a knee high boot or with a heel and you can compete the look with a faux fur which is my go-to party coat every winter.

Most of us by now have a faux fur coat in our wardrobes and it’s an essential in the colder months. For longer dresses, go for a more cropped waist length style while mini dresses look amazing paired with a faux fur that stops just at the hemline. Bare leg optional for those who are brave enough but add a pair of heavy denier tights if you need a bit of extra warmth.

Accessories wise, I would be lost without a really sparkly, diamnate bag and it will lift and make a party outfit out of even the most simple outfit. There are absolutely loads of them around at the moment and you’ll be pulling it out of your wardrobe for seasons to come. Now all you need to do is say yes to all those invites.
