On 2 May 2023, 18 month old Mahdi eats a sachet of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) in his mother Anar’s lap at Daikundi Provincial Hospital in Afghanistan. Mahdi had been checked in to the hospital for treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM), but after passing his appetite test, he was discharged to go home. UNICEF supplies RUTF to thousands of hospitals like this one across Afghanistan, helping treat some of the 875,000 children expected to suffer from SAM this year.

UNICEF's three wise gifts

These gifts aim to bring happiness, health, and comfort to those living in some of the harshest conditions on the planet, and the collection features three distinctive options.

The Crisis Survival Kit (€30) ensures two children receive life-long protection against diseases like polio and measles, along with emergency food, clean water, and other life-saving supplies.

Addressing the aftermath of conflict or natural disasters, The Clean Water and Hygiene Kit (€50) provides a family with a month's supply of clean water and sanitation essentials.

Designed to keep six children safe and warm during crises, the Conflict And Natural Disaster Survival Kit (€90) includes blankets, first aid kits, high-calorie peanut paste, water purification tablets, and oral rehydration salts.

Purchasing these gifts not only offers a thoughtful present for loved ones but also contributes to UNICEF's mission of safeguarding children worldwide. To find out more, visit www.unicef.ie/shop.
