Cork Acro Gymnastics Club in Carrigtwohill suffered extensive damage during Storm Babet.

Gymnastics club in need of help

Cork Acro Gymnastics Club in Carrigtwohill lost all of its sprung flooring and many of its mats and foam soft play equipment when the devastating storm hit Cork on 18 October.

The club also hopes to repaint and recarpet its premises in order to make it is suitable for training again.

Management has confirmed that the total cost of the damage/replacement of the equipment and floor covering is €182,000. A GoFundMe page set up to help with costs has so far raised over €4,000 of its €5,000 target.

The club has also received flood relief funding which has made it possible to replace one of the sprung floors and some mats.

Management said: “We are looking to raise €5,000 to replace more of the lost equipment and make it possible to carpet the floor to ensure the safe return to class for all our members.

“Currently our GymABLE members (children with disabilities) are not able to return to the gym as the gym is not suitable for their needs,” they added.

The club hopes to fully reopen in February 2024 following repair works in the gym building. “We really appreciate all the support from our members,” management said.
