Here’s how to take the sales in your stride...

Let’s not forget that a bargain is only a bargain if you need something and will get the wear out of it. I have picked up two coats over the years in the sales for a fraction of the original price and I still love and wear each coat. The sales are a great time to buy heavy and more pricey winter items like coats and gorgeous knitwear which if you can pack away and keep for next year, it’s like a lovely surprise when you pull it out of the wardrobe the following year.

The sales are not the time to hit the shops unprepared. Approach with a calm attitude to avoid overspending on things that will just sit in your wardrobe. I like to make a list during the year of wardrobe essentials or pieces that are that bit more expensive that I wouldn’t necessarily be able to pay full price for and these are the items that I try and get during the sale.

This saves you money in the long run, you hit the new year with those gaps in the wardrobe filled and essentially you shop less and make better choices. I like to shop instore usually for sales but occasionally if I’ve tried the item on in store when it’s full price I’ll pop it in my online basket ahead of sale which stops the panic scrolling once the sale goes live.

Some of my favourite things to look out for in the sales are coats, good quality trench coats, jeans and luxe knitwear. Good quality boots and handbags are other items that always make my sale wishlist. Good luck and remember to be nice to shop assistants this sale season!

In other news I am attempting for the first year in a long time to hit the town for New Year’s Eve. I’ve decided to go for an early dinner and then perhaps have a cocktail or two on the way home but I have my doubts that Ill make it to midnight and will probably be back home in pyjamas at that stage. I’m not a young one anymore.

New Year’s Eve dressing calls for all the glam and it really is that one night where you can absolutely go all out. I love a glitzy dress for such an occasion and I’ve spotted some gorgeous pieces online and around the shops.

Pretty Lavish have a dress for every type of NYE gathering you could think of from a house party to a wedding and from sparkle and metallics to fine knit fabrics.

My personal favourite is the Lana red knit dress and it’s the sort of dress that is comfortable but also super sexy. I also love the amethyst coloured midaxi dress with dramatic thigh split. Super covered on top but with the balancing out of the slit, just add a boot and you can party the night away in style.
