Park and ride service for MTU

A free Park and Ride service for MTU students has got underway this week. This comes in the wake of a walkout which was organised by the MTU Cork Students’ Union last October.

The protest called on MTU to put a plan in place to support growing numbers of students and to provide them with adequate parking. Representatives highlighted the difficulty students faced in reaching their classes on time, attributing the challenge to the scarcity of parking spaces and unreliable public transportation options.

The new Park and Ride service will depart from Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium, where students and staff are encouraged to use a private coach service. The bus will directly travel to the MTU Bishopstown campus, making a drop-off at the 219 bus stop located on Rossa Avenue.

The pilot service will run from 8am to 6pm, with buses arriving every 15 minutes during the morning hours from 8am to 10am, transitioning to a 30 minute interval between 10am and 4pm, and reverting to a 15 minute frequency from 4pm to 6pm. The greyhound track's operating hours are from 7.30am to 6.30pm. Users parking at the track are advised to collect their cars by 6.30pm.
