Denim split front midi column skirt, Nobody’s Child, €75

Pure jeanius

Denim midi skirts are having a moment. More structured and no-nonsense than floral wrap dresses that have been hanging around for years and have outstayed their welcome, these sturdy, durable skirts blend comfort, style, and functionality, and are a perfect choice for spring and very on-trend.

The beauty of the denim midi skirt lies in its ability to effortlessly marry classic denim aesthetics with contemporary silhouettes, and the good news is that it’s not just for Gen Z either.

Whether paired with a crisp white shirt for a clean, daytime look, teamed with a graphic tee for an edgier ensemble, or paired with a cosy knit and ankle boots for a weekend-ready outfit, the midi offers flexibility and versatility.

Due to its pencil-like shape, you have the option of either a loose or snug fit on top. However, tucking in your top gives a more polished appearance. Many fashionistas are wearing the midi at the hips, but if you are not that brave, you might choose to wear it at the waist. We would also recommend wearing it at a slightly longer than knee-length, and if you are considering a jacket, go either cropped or long, but definitely not mid-length which will look dowdy.

As the weather warms up, pair it with sandals and a lightweight top for a breezy summer look, or opt for reliable trainers for a Saturday lunch with girlfriends.

One of our favourite midis at the moment is this M&S version (pictured right) which is available in black, light blue and indigo. Rather brilliantly, it also comes in three lengths, so whatever your height, there will be skirt to suit you. Nobody’s Child denim midis (pictured left) were sellouts last summer, but they are back in stock, and are also well worth getting your hands on.
