Cerise dress from Silk Peaches boutique.

Ramp up the glam factor

While a summer wedding can be a little bit more on the casual/boho side, I like to use an autumn winter wedding as the perfect excuse to fully ramp up the glam factor with luxurious textures, rich colours and beautiful embellishments.

Basically you can be as extra as you want to be. You also want to be able to wear these outfits again as gone be with the days where we bought an outfit once and never wore it again.

If you want a wow piece but don’t want to spend a fortune on something new, then rental is the answer.

There are two fantastic rental places in Cork, Best Kept Secret and The Fashion Club. Both offer an interesting curated edit of pieces that will ensure you look the most stylish and fashion forward guest.

You can check out their collections and pricing info online.

The Fashion Club also have a bridal edit for the bride who likes something a little different or even for a cool hen party look while Best Kept Secret specialise in Australian designers.

Wedding guest rental is the sustainable way forward when it comes to occasion dressing and makes such sense.

I’ll certainly be renting for the next wedding I attend.

It's also worth checking out boutiques for fabulous labels and dressy pieces you won’t find anywhere else.

I love a shorter length dress for a wedding and the Cerise dress from Hope & Ivy available at Silk Peaches boutique is super glam with a little nod to the ‘60s.

The feather cuff detail makes the dress perfect for a winter wedding and would work perfectly with some velvet platforms in a similar colour plus it would be perfect for any night outs you may have during the upcoming party season.

Feathers also look fabulous as an accessory so you could do a very simple dress in a gorgeous jewel colour and then add the finishing touches with a feather handbag or go very fashion forward with a feather top, tailored trousers and a pair of killer heels and drape a slinky blazer over the top.

I also adore the Sleeper sets which look like very expensive pyjamas and feature feather cuffs and hems. I would definitely wear one of these sets to a wedding and accessorise with a headband and Mary Janes for a super opulent look.

If you don’t want to splash the cash, then buy a silky set and you can get a seamstress to add feather cuffs for you in a contrasting colour for a fraction of the price.

I also love velvet at a winter wedding, it looks so rich and effortless. You can go for a classic midi dress in autumnal tones, try vintage shops for these as you can find some beautiful pieces here or if you want to give it a modern feel why not go for a tailored velvet suit?

Last winter velvet suits were everywhere especially in shades of green and pink but you can find updated versions of burgundy and plum this season.

If velvet isn’t your thing then just go for suiting in a silky fabric which is super comfortable and you’ll get endless mix and match wear out of it later in the season.

There are no rules (except it’s probably not a good idea to wear white) so have fun and ensure your dancing shoes are nice and comfortable!
