Last chance to become a Cork city warden today!

Leesiders who love their city have been invited to turn that passion into action by becoming a city centre warden.

Today, Thursday, is the last day to apply for a new initiative aimed at enhancing peoples experience of Cork city centre.

The pilot Community Safety Warden Scheme, now being rolled out in partnership with Cork City Council and An Garda Síochána, is seeking applicants for both full-time and part-time city centre warden roles.

The wardens will serve as a welcoming and visible presence on city streets, engaging with the public and visitors, supporting businesses, and helping to maintain a clean, safe, and inviting environment for all who live, work, or visit Cork city.

Key responsibilities of the City Centre Wardens will include monitoring designated areas to support public safety and environmental standards; providing assistance and information to citizens and visitors; reporting issues such as litter, graffiti, and anti-social behaviour; supporting events and enhancing the day-to-day urban experience; and liaising with state agencies, gardaí, and businesses.

Ideal candidates will be outgoing and engaging, community-minded, and have strong communication skills. A good knowledge of Cork city is essential, while previous experience in a similar role is beneficial but not required.

The successful candidates will be employed by Cork City Council and supported by the Council, CBA, and An Garda Siochana.

The initiative is a direct result of the Cork Business Association’s (CBA) successful push for funding to pilot a scheme focused on community wellbeing, anti-social behaviour prevention, and urban improvement. This funding was further added to by Cork City Council, enabling a total of four community wardens.

“This scheme is about putting people at the heart of the city’s public spaces,” said Dave O’Brien, President of CBA.

“By working together with Cork City Council and An Garda Síochána, we’re aiming to create a more engaging and supportive experience for everyone in the city centre, and make Cork City the safest and cleanest city,” he added.

Applications can be submitted through the Cork City Council Careers Portal via corkcity.ie.
