Airport looks that are pretty fly

My goodness, I am badly in need of a holiday.

While I have been off on mini trips around Ireland, I am craving getting on a plane and jetting off somewhere sunny with good food, views and plenty of tasty cocktails. Of course, I am all about reducing those airmiles but sometimes you need that feeling of stepping off a plane into gloriously dry, hot air.

I’m not sure where I’ll end up, but I’ve been researching different destinations and trying to figure out how much luggage I can fit into a carry on while also toying with the idea of skipping the flight altogether and just getting on a ferry.

I have never been on a ferry so the idea holds an unknown romantic notion for me. I stand to be corrected on this.

However, if I do get a flight I am all about that airport, travel outfit. What I want to know is does anyone else put a huge amount of effort into what they’re going to wear travelling? I will never look better for my holidays than sitting in the bar at Cork Airport.

My (fake) tan is perfect and I’m wearing my best smart casual outfit. I am one of those people that get progressively paler on a sun holiday as I sit under an umbrella wearing factor 50 for the week. So here are some of my go-to airport looks that I go for time and time again.

Summer and winter travel of course bring their own specific set of issues but I find spring/summer travel immeasurably easier especially if the weather is playing ball. You can watch me swan into the airport wearing a pyjama style co-ord complete with some sandals adorned with my jewellery. Perhaps too much jewellery as I always get reprimanded by security staff as it takes so long to take it all off. Tut at me all you like - the jewellery is essential!

A co-ord is such an easy choice as it’s very comfortable and looks put together and works well for long and short haul flights. You could be very adventurous and go for a co-ord that swaps out trousers for a pair of shorts so that you hit the ground running once you get off the plane and you’re instantly ready for the pool.

Pop a sweatshirt over your shoulders or a denim jacket to save space in the case and add an extra layer. You can also wear the co-ord as separates and with other pieces while on your hols.

I also love to style some linen pieces for the airport and a pair of linen trousers, t-shirt, sandals and again a sweatshirt or denim jacket are perfect for travel. Linen is light and breathable and when worn in a wide leg style is the right amount of roomy for travel. You’ll also have a good selection of separates that you can style with other pieces if you are tight on packing space.

If you find trousers uncomfortable to wear, then fear not because I also love a skirt or dress moment at the airport and it can feel really loose and flowy especially when the departures lounge can feel stuffy. Pair a circle skirt with a t-shirt and a jacket belted over it for a very chic travel look. I recently wore a cream midi skirt with a grey t-shirt and belted a leopard print cargo jacket over the top and when worn with trainers or sandals this would make a great outfit to start off your holidays, working especially well for a city break. Now I just need to book that flight!
