Man dies in Cork city house fire

A man in his 60s has died and a woman has been injured in a house fire in Cork city in the early hours of this morning.

The fire occurred at a house in Hollyhill on Cork city’s northside.

The alarm was raised at approximately 12:45am and emergency services rushed to the scene.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman, also in her 60s, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being brought by ambulance to CUH.

The fire was successfully extinguished by Cork City Fire Brigade and the scene is currently preserved with a technical examination set to take place. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.

It is reported that the inside of the two-storey house was completely destroyed in the fire.
