Falling for autumn looks

I’m back from my holidays and you may be interested to know that I did in fact successfully fit all my holiday outfits into a carry-on bag.

Now it was pretty much bulging but still I managed it and in actual fact, I had packed about two outfits too many but it’s always good to have a backup in case you’re not feeling one or two pieces.

With the summer holiday being done I’m sort of in a, dare I say, autumnal head space and it does seem a pity as I hadn’t really even gotten much use out of the three plastic totes I keep my high summer pieces in.

I’ll have them to hand, but I’ve already started adding a layer or two to my outfits and I’ve started feeling a bit weird wearing sandals so for footwear, I’m reverting back to an ankle boot with my summer dresses. You really can’t beat an ankle boot when it comes to transitional dressing, and I still can keep my cool by having the legs out.

I’m really much more of an autumn person so I’m already having a think about my new season style, what I’ll be keeping in my wardrobe, what looks I may retire and also to see if there’s anything new and exciting that I might add to my wardrobe. Of course, I’ll be having a little look at the new season trends and seeing what appeals to me and what I may already have in my wardrobe that I can play around with.

For the moment though, I’m focusing on the transitional pieces that are going to easily take my wardrobe from summer to autumn with ease. The most key piece to transitional dressing in my opinion is a jacket. In fact, I would say a large proportion of my wardrobe, whatever the season, is made up of various styles of jackets and blazers. For now, I’ll be wearing blazers paired with jeans and t-shirts which is of course an easy to style look. I’ll also get more wear out of my linen co-ords by wearing a pair of pumps and popping a blazer over the top.

I’ll keep the look laid back by going for a more relaxed style blazer instead of anything with too much structure. I’ll also be popping a blazer over summer dresses and when combined with an ankle boot it makes for an easy breezy autumnal style.

I’ve also been noticing a blazer trend for the new season which is a sort of frayed edging, and I will be keeping an eye out for one that I can incorporate into my wardrobe. H&M on the high street is always a go-to for me for jackets and blazers that are affordable, and I’ve had jackets from there that I’ve been wearing for years and will continue to do so.

I’ll also be tentatively getting my knit wear back out of storage and seeing what I can add back in for now. It’s not really very cold but I do find at times I could do with a cosy layer especially if sitting outdoors or pottering around. The trend for throwing a knit over the shoulders looks set to stay and it’s a fun yet practical way to wear and extra layer and add a pop of colour. I’m on the lookout for a red knit this season and perhaps a stripey knit too that will work well with neutral outfits. I’m looking forward to opening up my autumn storage boxes and shopping my own wardrobe.

That’s my weekend plans! sorted!
