County Mayor's Diary Cllr Mary Linehan Foley
It is a privilege to serve as Mayor of the County of Cork once again.
Returning to this role for a second time is both an honour and a responsibility I approach with energy, optimism, and deep appreciation for the people I represent. Over the past number of weeks, since taking up office, I have had the opportunity to travel across the county, meeting communities, volunteers, businesses, and individuals who embody the very best of Cork.
Everywhere I go, I see the strength of community spirit. From the smallest village to our bustling towns, people are working together to create opportunities, preserve heritage, and ensure that Cork remains a place where families can thrive. It is clear to me that what sets our county apart is not just its size or natural beauty, but the determination and pride of its people.
As mayor, one of my priorities is to encourage greater engagement between Cork County Council and our citizens. The council belongs to you. It is your voice, your services, your future.
I would encourage everyone to stay connected with the work of the council, whether that is by attending public meetings, following updates online, or simply taking the time to share your views with your local representatives. Democracy works best when people are involved, and your participation really does make a difference.
Since taking up office, I have attended numerous events that demonstrate the diversity and vitality of Cork. From cultural festivals and sporting achievements to community initiatives and local business successes, I have been struck again and again by the creativity and resilience that shines through in every corner of the county. These events remind me of how important it is to celebrate what we have and to work together to face challenges and seize opportunities.
On a practical note, I would like to take this opportunity to remind citizens of a temporary change to council services. The Motor Tax Office will be closed from Thursday 4 September to Monday 8 September inclusive to facilitate a move to their new premises. The new offices at the Business Growth Hub on the County Hall Campus, (Eircode T12 A243), will reopen to the public, by prior appointment only, on Tuesday 9 September. I encourage you to plan ahead if you require assistance during this period, and of course online services remain available at all times.
As I continue in this role, I look forward to meeting many more of you, hearing your ideas, and working together for the good of our county. With your support and involvement, I am confident that Cork will continue to thrive.
Serving as mayor is an honour, and I will do all I can to ensure that your voice is heard and that our county continues to flourish.
