Jazz it up with the right accessories this weekend
I’ve been in a style pickle this week as I have not one but two nights out at the weekend.
Yes, she is living it up for the jazz weekend which is all well and good until you realise you have been fully committed to your casual and workwear wardrobe and you have absolutely nothing that you would want to wear for an actual night out.
I don’t mean dinner and some drinks which is easy, peasy or a dressy event, again ramping up the glam is not a problem. I’m talking about a night where you’re going to a pub and a gig and will be required to stand for several hours and dance.
What does one wear in such a situation?! That’s what I’ve been mulling over all week. I’ve been looking for inspo in all my usual places, staring vacantly into the abyss that is my wardrobe and trying on countless items of clothing only to firmly reject them all.
I haven’t really bought anything dressy in a long time and I just don’t even know what people wear out anymore and my main issue is footwear. Being quite short I want a bit of a heel, but comfort as always is key especially when you want to boogie the night away.
Now, it might be a bit boring but one look that I may go for is a long sleeved black mini dress that has a bit of ruching and even though it’s very simple, I have in the past been able to jazz it up with the right accessories. I’m thinking a statement earring, a crossbody bag, oversized blazer and then pop on some metallic cowboy boots which are my saving grace when I don’t know what footwear to wear. I bought a silver and white pair last year and they go with everything. I also have a knee-high gold pair which would work as well. My only issue is this requires a fake tan as I still feel it’s not cold enough for the trusty black tights yet. I also have another dress option which is a leopard print shirt dress that I could pair with the gold boots and pop a leather jacket over it. It’s a bit more colourful but also feels slightly more casual.
Of course, a classic option for any night out is a jean and a nice top combination which I have really not invested in. I find it very hard to find tops I like. They just don’t seem to suit me which is a weird thing to say about a type of clothing but it’s just not my go-to style much to my regret as it’s such a handy dressy option. I might style up some black trousers with a band t-shirt, blazer and boots which is such a simple look and is perfect if you’re going out a little bit earlier in the day and need something to carry you from day to night.
A great jacket can really be a style saviour in these sorts of situations and I do have a lovely deep bronze bomber jacket with a smattering of sequins that would be perfect with some barrel leg jeans and boots. My only issue is the jacket is quite warm and I am certainly not feeling the cold yet. If all else fails, I know I can pull a jumpsuit out of the wardrobe which is such an easy thing to style. Keep it simple in colour and silhouette and add the glam with chunky gold accessories. Have a great jazz weekend to all that celebrate!
