Christmas in the City: A very Cork Christmas gala returns to City Hall

It’s a fierce busy job being Cork’s Lord Mayor, but once every year Leeside’s first citizen gets to let their hair down for the annual Lord Mayor’s Gala Christmas Concert fundraiser.

This year will mark the 63rd outing for the hugely popular event which takes place on 6 December at Cork City Hall. The concert was officially launched last month by Lord Mayor Cllr Fergal Dennehy

With the theme of ‘A Very Cork Christmas’, this year’s gala concert promises an unforgettable evening which will showcase the very best of Cork talent. Led by Yvonne Coughlan, the lineup will include Majella Cullagh, Lady Fi, Lottie O’Driscoll, Barry Tierney, and the Cork Concert Orchestra conducted by Brian Prendergast.

Also performing will be Montfort Youth Choir, Cór Cois Abhann, Joan Denise Moriarty School of Dance, Kevin Goble, and Signalman Araon Kearney of the Irish Defence Forces. Audience favourite Elmarie Mawe will return as MC for the evening.

As always, the Gala Christmas Concert is a charity event, and this year’s beneficiaries will be Samaritans Cork, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, and Shine A Light, chosen by the lord mayor in recognition of their vital work in the community.

Speaking at the launch, Lord Mayor Cllr Fergal Dennehy said: “I’m thrilled to officially launch the Gala Christmas Concert, a cherished festive tradition in our city’s calendar. Now in its 63rd year, it’s more than a night of music and celebration; it’s a testament to the incredible generosity and community spirit of the people of Cork year after year. I am so looking forward to what promises to be a fantastic, memorable, and meaningful evening.”

Tickets for the Lord Mayor’s Gala Christmas Concert are on sale now and can be purchased through the Everyman website or in Pro Musica, Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork.

With the concert selling out in recent years, tickets are expected to go fast – Cork audiences are encouraged to book early and not miss out on this festive favourite.
