Help a grieving widow find lost rings

By Cáit O'Neill

A recently widowed woman is desperately appealing to the people of Cork to help find her lost engagement ring and wedding band.

Maree Sherlock, whose husband passed away last year, lost the precious items two weeks ago in the Rochestown area of Cork city.

Maree, who is Drogheda based, had travelled to Cork to attend her brother’s funeral, along with her daughter Orla.

They were delayed on their journey and stopped at Circle K Express Rochestown to quickly change their clothes before the funeral. Straight after they dropped their travel bags at Rochestown Park Hotel before continuing on their route to the funeral home in Wilton.

A photograph taken by Orla of her mum outside the funeral home shows that Maree was not wearing her rings at that point.

The Sherlock family contacted Circle K, Rochestown Park Hotel, and the local garda station but nothing has been handed in to date.

Maree is grieving during at a difficult time in her life and would love to recover the rings.

She said: “They are 58 years old. They aren’t worth a lot - it’s pure sentimental value.”

Maree described the engagement ring as a slim gold band with a round white diamond in the middle, surrounded by a cluster of smaller white diamonds. The gold wedding band has a distinctive style and is variegated – it is not smooth or flat, particularly around the edge. The wedding band does not feature a stone. Maree described the wedding band as being “twice as wide as modern wedding rings”.

Maree’s daughter Orla has set up a dedicated email address and is appealing for any information on any rings found that fit the description of her mum’s rings.

If anyone in Cork finds the Sherlock family heirlooms, they can contact Orla at ringslostincork@gmail.com.
