Mark and Kira take time to reflect

For VOYA founders Mark and Kira Walton, January is not about rushing into resolutions. Instead, the couple treat the opening weeks of the year as a considered ‘reset’ period, a time to pause, reflect and realign, guided by Irish seasonal traditions and the natural rhythm of the moon cycles.

Each January unfolds across four distinct lunar phases, which Mark and Kira consciously work with as prompts for reflection, release, intention setting and renewed momentum. It’s a practice they credit with helping them navigate both personal life and the evolving direction of luxury brand VOYA.

“VOYA was born out of a deep love and appreciation for our Irish coastlines, particularly the west of the island, where nutrient-rich seaweed thrives,” said Mark Walton.

He added: “Seaweed photosynthesises, meaning it uses sunlight to create energy, and I often feel the same applies to people. We’re deeply influenced by our surroundings, and both Kira and I pay close attention to moon cycles, just as our Celtic ancestors did.”

January 2026 began with a full moon on 3 January, traditionally referred to as An Teach Geal, a time associated with culmination, illumination and emotional clarity. For Kira, it was a moment to pause and look back before moving forward.

As the month progressed, the last quarter moon on 11 January marked a period of letting go. “It’s about taking stock of what no longer serves you,” Mark explained. “Releasing it before welcoming anything new.”

That sense of renewal continues with the new Momon on 19 January which Kira sees as the most powerful moment for intention setting. “This is when we plan for the year ahead, both personally and professionally. Where do we want to take ourselves? How do we want to show up? How can the brand evolve and improve this year?”

By the time the first quarter moon arrives on 26 January, the focus shifts firmly to action. “That’s when reflection turns into momentum,” says Mark. “January will see me fitting in as many sea swims as possible. There’s something incredibly regenerative about the coast at this time of year, it clears the head and sets you up to start acting on the goals you’ve mapped out.”

After cold water swims, Mark often reaches for one of VOYA’s aromatic rollerballs, applying it as part of his warm-up routine to help restore balance and carry that sense of calm into the day.

The couple also view January as the lead-in to Imbolc on 1 February, traditionally seen as the midpoint between the winter solstice and spring equinox. “It’s a reminder that the first signs of spring are on the way,” Kira said while adding “January is the space to reflect, release, set intentions and begin again. Checking in with yourself and with nature can be genuinely transformative, allowing you to move into the year with clarity and confidence.”
