City Hall to host major International Womens' Day event
Next month will see a special event which promises to be a vibrant celebration of women’s voices, achievements, and support networks across the city.
Lady Mayoress of Cork Karen Brennan recently launched an International Women’s Day Event on 27 February in City Hall which will be open to the public.
This year’s theme is 'With knowledge we thrive, with support we rise'.
The event will provide an opportunity for these groups to network, share resources, and showcase the wide range of supports available to women in Cork.
Some of the groups and organisations confirmed to attend include Cuanlee, LinC, Pregnancy Loss Research Group, Good Sheperd, Mayfield Women’s Shed, Network Cork, The Sexual Violence Centre, and Ruhama.
A statement from Cork City Council said: “The Lady Mayoress International Women’s Day Event is a celebration of solidarity, empowerment, and community. It aims to highlight the importance of knowledge and support in helping women thrive and rise together.”
The event was officially launched at City Hall last Thursday, at an event which brought together representatives from community groups, cultural organisations, and women’s support services from across Cork City.
Speaking at the launch, Lady Mayoress Karen Brennan said that “across our city there are incredible supports available for women at every stage of life, and I want to encourage women to reach out and make use of them”.
“We don’t have to do everything on our own. There is a helping hand, a listening ear, and practical support in every corner of our community.
“Taking that first step and asking for help takes courage, but it is often where real action and meaningful change begin. When women feel supported informed, and connected, they are empowered to move forward with confidence and our entire city Is stronger for it,” she said. The event will take place on Thursday 27 February at 10am to 1pm in the Millennium Hall, at Cork’s City Hall.
