Achieve that effortless glow

As many of you know, I manage one of Cork’s leading aesthetic clinics, aNuMe Medical, and one of the most common conversations we have in clinic is around bridal skin preparation.

Every bride wants to look and feel her absolute best on her wedding day, and while the dress, the hair and the makeup all play their part, it’s ultimately your skin that sets the foundation for everything else.

Above, you’ll read Charlene’s incredible story and see her phenomenal bridal look, but what isn’t always visible is the planning and care that goes into achieving that effortless glow. I recently sat down with our expert team Dr Hanu, Nurse Sharon and our aesthetician Elizabeth to map out a realistic and effective bridal timeline. While every journey is completely individual, one thing we always emphasise is that giving yourself time is the most valuable investment you can make.

Ideally, this process begins around twelve months before the big day. At this stage, it’s all about understanding your skin. A thorough consultation allows us to assess concerns such as acne, pigmentation or scarring and put a structured plan in place. This is where more intensive, corrective treatments are introduced, giving your skin the time it needs to respond and improve gradually and naturally.

Between six and nine months out, the focus shifts to building and refining. This is where we may introduce treatments that support collagen production or enhance skin quality, such as collagen biostimulators or subtle dermal filler where appropriate. What’s important here is that everything is done in a way that looks natural and settled, never rushed. With the evolution of aesthetics, we are also seeing incredible results from treatments such as skin boosters and polynucleotides, which improve the overall health and quality of the skin without altering your natural features. It’s a much more modern, skin-first approach.

At around three to four months before the wedding, we complete any of the more intensive treatments such as deeper laser work or medical-grade peels. Timing is key here, as it allows the skin to fully heal and reveal the results without any lingering downtime as you get closer to your wedding day.

Two months out is where we begin to refine. Anti-wrinkle treatments are typically carried out at this stage, allowing enough time for results to settle naturally and for any small adjustments to be made if needed. From this point forward, the focus moves away from correction and towards hydration, radiance and maintaining skin health.

In the final one to two weeks, simplicity is key. Gentle, soothing treatments such as Hydrafacial, LED therapy or oxygen facials help to calm, hydrate and enhance the skin without any risk of irritation.

It’s also important at this stage to pause stronger active ingredients like retinol to ensure the skin remains balanced and glowing. And easy gut the make up application. Having done a few bridal make ups myself over the years I’ve noticed that the skin is always a great canvas when it’s not irritated.

One of the most important things I always remind brides is to enjoy the process. Your wedding is a moment in time, but the journey leading up to it should feel just as special. These appointments become time for yourself — a chance to reset, relax and build confidence gradually.

For those also thinking about how they want to feel beyond their skin, there are options that can support you in feeling strong and confident in your own body, particularly with honeymoons on the horizon. Treatments such as Emsculpt or non-invasive body sculpting with Fotona can help tone and strengthen areas by supporting muscle definition. This isn’t about changing how you look, but rather enhancing how you feel strong, energised and comfortable in your own skin.

Ultimately, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to bridal preparation. The most beautiful results come from working with your natural features, allowing time for progress, and focusing on long-term skin health. When your skin feels good, it shows, and that confidence is what truly carries you through your wedding day and beyond.
