50 new data jobs for Cork

A global leader in data management officially launched its European software research and development hub in Cork today which will create 50 new jobs.

The strategic expansion by American company Qumulo is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland and aims to position Cork as a central node in the firm’s global operations.

The 50 highly skilled positions created through the expansion will be delivered over the next three years and will be focused on engineering, research and development, and customer service.

The new Cork team will be tasked with developing solutions for “exabyte-scale” workloads, specifically aiming to provide the secure, instantaneous data access required to power modern autonomous AI systems.

Minister for Enterprise, Tourism & Employment, Peter Burke TD, welcomed the investment, noting that the move highlights the strength of Ireland’s technology ecosystem.

“Qumulo’s decision is a strong endorsement of Cork as a location where cutting-edge engineering and global ambition meet,” Minister Burke said.

He continued: “It highlights the depth of talent emerging from our universities and Ireland’s ability to support pioneering innovation on a global scale.”

Qumulo Chief Technology Officer Kiran Bhageshpur cited Cork’s robust educational infrastructure as a primary driver for the move. Following an extensive review of various European locations, the company identified the “deep talent pool” generated by third-level institutions in South-West Ireland as the deciding factor.

The Cork facility will serve as Qumulo’s second research and development centre, focusing heavily on how artificial intelligence can help businesses manage massive global data infrastructures. The team will research and develop solutions to enable the secure, frictionless, and instantaneous transfer of exabyte-scale workloads across the globe.

“Qumulo’s establishment in Cork is a statement of the ambition of Qumulo to continue its growth to meet customer demand, and Cork’s capacity to deliver on that future with the talent base and ecosystem to drive innovation,” said Qumulo Engineering Director Diarmaid Hogan.

Beyond engineering, the hub will house an expanded customer success team to support the company’s international client base.

“Cork is a milestone, not just a milestone for Qumulo — but for every customer who depends on us to be present, responsive, and invested in their success,” said Qumulo Vice President of Customer Success, Dave Coughlan.

CEO of IDA Ireland Michael Lohan added: “Ireland offers a compelling combination of talent, research excellence, and an open, collaborative business environment, and Qumulo’s expansion in Cork is another example of how that proposition continues to resonate with global technology companies.”
