Fine Gael councillor Gerry Healy has been co-opted to Cork County Council.

Cllr co-opted in place of late Michael Creed

A new member has been co-opted to Cork County Council following the sad passing of former Fine Gael councillor Michael Creed earlier this year.

Newly co-opted Cllr Gerry Healy will represent the Macroom Municipal District.

Congratulating Mr Healy was Fine Gael TD for Cork North West John Paul O’Shea who praised his colleague for his long record of service to the area.

Deputy O’Shea said: “I know he will be a strong and dedicated representative for the people of the Macroom Municipal District.”

Though it was a time for celebration for Cllr Healy, Deputy O’Shea made sure to pay tribute to the man whose seat was being filled.

He said: “While Gerry’s appointment is a positive development for local representation, it also comes at a time when we continue to remember and mourn our friend and colleague Michael Creed. Michael gave decades of outstanding public service to his community, Cork County Council, and Fine Gael. His contribution to public life and to the people he served will never be forgotten.”

Deputy O’Shea also acknowledged Áine Spillane for her willingness to put her name forward in the co-option process.

“Áine is a dedicated Fine Gael member who has made a valuable contribution to her local community and to our party over many years,” said Deputy O’Shea.

Looking ahead, the deputy acknowledged a significant agenda for Cork County Council over the months and years to come, including housing, rural development, roads, community facilities, water infrastructure, and supporting local businesses.

He said: “I know Gerry will bring energy, commitment, and a strong work ethic to his new role, and I look forward to working alongside him to deliver for the people we represent.

“Public service requires dedication and commitment, and I have no doubt that Gerry will be an excellent advocate for the people of the Macroom Municipal District. I wish him every success in the years ahead,” concluded Deputy O’Shea.
