Strangers needed for East Cork mini fest
Music, friendship, and hazy summer vibes are the calling cards of the hugely popular roaming mini festival series Love Is A Stranger which returns to Cork next month.
Back for its second outing at the gloriously verdant setting of Ballyvolane House in East Cork on 17 and 18 July, Love Is A Stranger promises another carefully chosen selection of contemporary Irish and international artists performing across intimate settings throughout each day and into the long summer nights.
A runaway success last year in Cork, Love Is A Stranger is the travelling sister event series created by long established music festival Another Love Story, held every August at Killyon Manor, Co. Meath, since 2014.
With the announcement of the series’ Cork return, organisers talked about the unique opportunity such an event provides.
They said: “One of the great thrills of the Love Is A Stranger series is having a platform to do a deep dive into the local music scenes in the new locations we find ourselves – and Cork, with its rich and storied history as a hub of music creation and expression, has provided incredibly rich pickings. We are so delighted to welcome a treasure trove of artists from Ireland and further afield.”
This year, Love is a Stranger also welcomes programme contributions from The Ambient Orbit (RTE Lyric FM), The Baltimore Fiddle Fair, and a very special dining and cocktail experience from Cork culinary sensation Cold Cuts.
On Friday, Kerry-born radio presenter and DJ, Donal Dineen, will open the festival with ‘Backstories’, followed by experimental Cork rock duo, Senior Infants. Saturday’s live music lineup includes Alex Gough, Fixity, Jean Pack, Lil Skag, Seamas Hyland, Sorcha Richardson, Smithereens, Theatre, John Spillane & the Band of Wrens, and Caoilte ó Cuanigh.
Saturday’s DJ set includes Move D (Germany), Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy (US), Acid Dave, Drithilíní, Funk Smack, Gilbert Steele, John Hennessy, Paul Kav, Seany Sean & Sully, Uncle Pearl, and The Als Shift Shack Soundsystem.
Love Is A Stranger also comes complete with a complimentary selection of artisan food and drink providers.
The festival runs mainly as an intimate Saturday one day and night event, with a very limited Friday early access and welcome event also available. Sunday is an early afternoon wind down with a series of closing concerts.
Saturday day tickets and overnight camping tickets are available, with very limited Friday early access and welcome party tickets also on sale complete with a selection of boutique accommodation options unique to Ballyvolane House.
