July GAA sports award for Carriagline’s Eanna

It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks for Carrigaline on both fronts still in contention in the county hurling and football championships and that on the back of winning the D2 Football League title and with it promotion to D1 for next season.

A key player in both codes but particularly in football, for his outstanding contribution especially on the scoring front, Eanna Desmond was the recipient of the 96FM/C013 Rochestown Park Hotel Sports Star award for July.

In that period, they had a brilliant win over champions St Finbarr’s in the opening round of the championship and Eanna was delighted.

“Yeah a big win and it set us up nicely for the 2nd round which was a tough one against Mallow but we got over the line and it’s now in our own hands ahead of the last game against Douglas.”

Winning the league was very important. “It was and we used the league to build momentum for the championship as we knew we had a huge game against the ‘Barr’s and it all worked out fine in the end.”

Eanna paid tribute to his team mates and management represented by former Cork star Nicholas Murphy.

“A great group to work with and put a lot of effort in all season on and off the field.”

County Board Chairman Pat Horgan congratulated Eanna on his well deserved award and wished Carrigaline continued success in the remainder of both championships while also thanking 96FM/C103 and the Rochestown Park Hotel for their continued promotion of these very prestigious awards and ongoing support of Cork GAA.

Tom Tobin of RPH and Isobel Keane of 96FM also congratulated Eanna on his award.

Many of his team mates, family, girlfriend Margaret Healy and Francis Kenneally, Cork County Board were in attendance to acknowledge a worthy winner.

Eanna now joins the previous monthly winners ahead of the gala banquet, January - Tommy Walsh, February - Meabh Murphy, March - Colm O’Callaghan, April - Aine Terry O’Sullivan, May - Niall O’Leary and June - Rory Twohig.
