The future of beauty is regenerative

If there is one word we are going to hear increasingly in beauty and aesthetics, it is regeneration.

For years, the industry focused on correcting what we could see: lines, wrinkles, pigmentation and loss of firmness. Now the conversation is shifting towards skin longevity and supporting the processes responsible for healthy-looking skin in the first place.

From exosomes and growth factors to PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) and injectable bioremodelling, regenerative beauty is moving rapidly from niche science into our skincare routines and treatment rooms.

One of the most interesting new launches comes from Ultraceuticals with its Youth Boost ExoSignal GF² Facial Serum (€148/30ml). Developed under the brand’s new Youth Boost longevity pillar, it combines plant-derived exosome technology with stabilised dual growth-factor-like plant peptides.

According to Ultraceuticals, each bottle contains 30 billion plant-derived exosomes derived from Centella asiatica. Think of exosomes as tiny messengers involved in cellular communication. The formula also contains an epidermal growth factor-like plant peptide to support renewal and an FGF-2-like plant peptide to support collagen and elastin.

Growth factors can be notoriously difficult to stabilise in cosmetic formulations, so Ultraceuticals uses oleosome fusion technology, combining them with lipid structures derived from plant seeds. Hyaluronic acid and glyceryl glucoside provide additional hydration support.

Interestingly, this isn’t intended to replace the hardworking vitamin A, B or C products already in your routine. Instead, Ultraceuticals describes it almost as the “personal trainer” for your other serums, preparing and supporting the skin alongside your existing actives.

Regenerative thinking is also appearing in professional treatments. I recently tried Genosys Bio-Mes PDRN needle-less microneedling at Shirley’s in Glanmire.

PDRN has become one of skincare’s biggest talking points, particularly with the influence of Korean beauty. What appealed to me about the Genosys treatment was its needle-free approach. My skin looked incredibly fresh and luminous immediately afterwards, and it offers an interesting introduction to the PDRN trend for anyone who isn’t particularly fond of needles. I was left glowing and it was an instant hit but my skin will also continue to improve. Thanks to Megan for the amazing treatment.

Then we have the injectable side of this new movement.

Profhilo Structura, available at Kerry Hanaphy in Cork, represents another evolution in how we approach facial ageing. Rather than behaving like a conventional dermal filler simply adding volume, Structura uses highly concentrated hyaluronic acid and is designed specifically to work within the superficial facial fat compartments.

This is significant because ageing doesn’t happen exclusively at skin level. Changes within facial fat and underlying structures contribute to the flattening, laxity and altered contours we associate with ageing. Treatments such as Structura reflect the industry’s increasing focus on tissue quality and structural support rather than simply filling individual lines.

These are three very different technologies, and we shouldn’t pretend that every product carrying the regenerative label does the same thing. However, together they illustrate a fascinating change in direction. This is on my bucket list.

The future of beauty may be less about 'anti-ageing' and more about longevity, communication, biostimulation and regeneration.

And I’m here for it. The goal isn’t to erase every sign of getting older. It’s healthier, stronger, better-functioning skin for longer.
