Hey, it’s a pizza party!
Children who were due to make their First Holy Communion at the weekend had a different celebration with a twist!
Community lender Gurranabraher Credit Union wanted to mark the occasion for Sunday’s Well Girls and Boys National School, and after consultation with the school, it was decided to provide each family with Pizza Party Pack.
Together with Apache Pizza Hollyhill, the party packs were delivered to all the children and their families so that they could appropriately celebrate in their own homes.
Gurranabraher Credit Union operates an extensive community sponsorship programme which provides support to many local clubs, societies, individuals and schools in the local community. It has provided €500,000 in sponsorship support to the local community in the last ten years, through its community development and education.
Liz Horgan, Principal of the Sunday’s Well Girls National School, said: “We’d been discussing and exploring the idea of how we could mark this important spiritual event in our children’s lives but especially in the current environment it always came back to how could we fund it.”
Ms Horgan went on to say: “With the support of our brilliant parents, we decided to talk to Gurranabraher Credit Union who have always been very supportive of the school.”
Eamonn Kirwan, Chair of Gurranabraher Credit Union, said: “We are delighted that we can help mark this special occasion to remind the children of what a special event their First Holy Communion would have been and hopefully celebrate the day. Working in the community as we do, we have a very close relationship with educators and feel that by supporting their initiatives we will see a dividend for all our community in the future.”
