Do you have high blood sugars?

Atlantia Clinical Trials are looking for people with raised blood sugars or pre-diabetes to participate in a research study. A fibre supplement is being investigated to determine its potential ability to help regulate blood sugar levels.

Pre-diabetes occurs when the amount of glucose (sugar) in the bloodstream is higher than normal, but not high enough for you to have a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes. Pre-diabetes is the stage prior to a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes.

Pre-diabetes is very treatable but should be taken seriously as people with it are at high risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease. You may be at risk of pre-diabetes if you; are over the age of 45, have a high BMI, have family history of diabetes, among other factors. Based on a review of several clinical studies it has been proposed that a 7g/day increase in fibre could result in a 6% reduction in diabetes risk. The fibre in this study acts a prebiotic by promoting the growth of the beneficial gut bacteria and therefore has the potential to affect blood glucose control and other markers of metabolic health.

If you have pre-diabetes or are unsure about your current blood sugars, Atlantia can provide a free blood test for you to check.

Successful applicants for this study will take part over a 5 month period, taking the fibre supplement twice daily, completing a few health questionnaires and attending 7 visits to Atlantia’s clinic in Blackpool, across that period. As is standard with all their studies, each volunteer is offered a free health check at their screening visit and a full blood test.

Each participant will receive €650 upon completion of the study in return for their time.
