Make second-hand feel special

I love my bank holiday weekends to have a mix of both and I’m always on the lookout for something fun to do and if that happens to also include a fashion or style element then sign me up immediately.

I’m a big fan of circular fashion. It’s absolutely essential in this day and age to combat the fast fashion giants and so I will be popping along to Peach Vintage on Saturday 3 May for their 1st birthday to show my support.

Peach Vintage opened its doors in May 2024 with a mission to make second-hand feel special. Every item in store is sold on consignment, creating a fully circular fashion model that supports both people and the planet.

Peach Vintage is proudly independent, community-rooted, and committed to being an inclusive and creative space for all. In a challenging time for small businesses and independent retail, Peach Vintage has quietly thrived by doing things differently.

Every piece in the shop is second-hand and sold on consignment, meaning nothing is ‘new’.

I also do regular drops of my own wardrobe clear outs and the clothing Katie accepts are of a great quality so you will absolutely find some gems here. If you have your own items that you are looking to sell then you can contact Katie on Whatsapp 087-3866605.

Over the past year, Peach Vintage has become more than just a shop. It’s a welcoming, inclusive space where style and sustainability meet, and where people of all sizes, genders, and backgrounds are invited to feel at home.

As the fabulous Katie Sloane, the woman behind the brand, she says: “To have made it through the first year as an independent shop is something I don’t take for granted, and it’s only possible because of the amazing support from the people that shop both online and instore, along with the consignors who continue to resell amazing clothing."

To mark the occasion, Peach Vintage will be holding a small in-store celebration on 3 May at the boutique at 8 Main Street in Midleton. All are welcome.

In other news, I have done an absolutely ruthless clear out of my own wardrobe and I could not feel better about it. It’s like free therapy and my mind feels so much clearer plus I feel more organised.

I will admit that I can be guilty of being a bit sentimental and holding onto things that really have no place in my wardrobe and likewise holding onto things that, in reality, I will never fit into again - whether that be too big or too small.

My wardrobe is now so tidy, and I can see everything that I have rather than the wardrobe being completely jumbled, and everything just pushed in on top of each other.

When this happens, I honestly just end up wearing the 10% of my wardrobe that I can see and it’s such a waste because under the clothes mountain are some absolute gems. Any extra bits that I can’t fit into the wardrobe have been neatly folder and put into plastic tote containers and categorized like neutrals, colourful prints etc.

!t makes it so much easier to put together outfits because I know which box to look in if I’m feeling like a colourful dressing day. I’ve also realised through this exercise that I could do with not buying anymore clothes for a long time which my pockets will really appreciate.
