Unleash your sleeping beauty
I’m at that wonderful age where sleep is precious and I realise now how I took a good night’s sleep for granted.
Oh, to be in my twenties again working, socialising and being full of beans with a mere few hours of sleep! I quite simply look back and marvel at myself and my ability to function at all but function I did.
I could fall asleep anywhere and everywhere, as soon as my head hit the pillow I was out like a lamp. These days a fly will enter the room and I’ll be awake for hours while mulling over past grievances and wondering if someone I met twenty years ago in a nightclub now hates me.
I’m pretty much obsessed with getting a good nights sleep and I will do everything in my power to ensure that happens. I have become an expert in the subject of sleep hygiene and here are some of the things that help me get a good nights sleep.
Now first up of course is pyjamas and this just has to be right for me to sleep well. I cannot cope with fleecy pyjamas, and I don’t know how anyone sleeps in these. I would be absolutely boiling.
I also find slinky, silky pjs okay for winter but not for the warmer months.
I adore a great pair of cotton pjs and in the summer it’s all about a top and shorts set. Look out for tencel in the fabric break down as it’s naturally lightweight, cooling and feels super soft against the skin.
You don’t need to compromise on style and I love the pastel blue set from Sinead Keary The Label which has a very sweet, scalloped edge detail and white buttons. Very simple, chic and stylish. You can keep cool and look you’re very best while hitting the hay.
I also have found a great selection on ASOS including Chelsea Peers which are made from organic cotton and if it’s a fun pair of pjs you’re looking for with a gorgeous print, then these are the pyjamas for you.
Sizing is key and I always make sure the pyjamas are fitting correctly too because too tight is just unbearable but if they’re too big then I feel like I get into a tangle. I always think it’s such a treat to have nice bedwear so make this a part of your sleep routine. It feels very luxurious and if you invest in good bed linen, you will feel like and absolute grown up queen getting into the bed.
As well as feeling good and looking great at nighttime, I also like to add a supplement to my routine such as the new Revive Active Sleep and Calm capsules which are designed to break the cycle between poor sleep and feelings of unease where one often fuels the other.
Nobody needs to be having the intrusive, wild 3am thoughts that keep us awake and then come the morning you wonder what you were even worried about.
I also have started using a magnesium spray to aid my sleep and once I’m out of the shower and my pores are open, I use the spray liberally over my body and I try to do this about a half an hour to an hour before I’m ready for sleep.
Consistency is key when it comes to heading off to dreamland and while I’m by no means a sleep expert these are a few things that I find have helped me get a good nights sleep recently.
