All Ireland preview: Fanzone down the Páirc
By Liudmyla Bortok
This is more than just a match! The Rebels’ Fanzone will return to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday 20 July giving fans a chance to enjoy the All-Ireland Hurling Championship final in the heart of Cork.
The family-friendly event will screen the historic clash between Cork and Tipperary on big screens, with entertainment planned before and after the game.
Every effort will be made to create the best atmosphere possible at the home of hurling in Cork, as Rebels everywhere cheer on Pat Ryan’s team in their efforts to bring Liam MacCarthy back to Leeside.
The last All-Ireland win may feel like a lifetime ago for many fans, but the dream remains alive – and stronger than ever.
Brian Geaney, Deputy Chief Executive of Cork City Council, said: “Cork has been turned into a sea of red and white in recent weeks. There's huge excitement building across Cork and we're hoping for an electric atmosphere at this free, family-friendly event at the home of Cork GAA.”
Pat Horgan, Chairperson of Cork GAA, added: “Once again, demand for final tickets for the All-Ireland final is unprecedented, and unfortunately not everyone will be able to attend Croke Park next Sunday. With support of Cork City Council, we are delighted to bring back the Rebels’ Fanzone, which will allow supporters of all ages an opportunity to come together, and support an incredible team from right across the county.”
The Rebels’ Fanzone will be fully ticketed, alcohol-free, and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets will be free of charge and available from 7.30am on Thursday 17 July at gaacork.ie, corkcity.ie and eventmaster.ie. Each person can apply for a maximum of five tickets, and as capacity is limited, organisers are asking fans to only apply if they are certain they will attend.
A ticket transfer and cancellation window will remain open until midnight on Saturday 19 July allowing fans to cancel or transfer any unused tickets.
With the Liam MacCarthy Cup just one game away, and the Rebels’ Fanzone back where it belongs, Cork is ready to stand united behind the red jersey.
