Groups, organisations, and companies are all invited to take part in the race.

Rhythmic-Lee challenged

Registration is now open for this year's Interfirm Dragon Boat Challenge which will take place on the River Lee in April.

The pounding of the dragon’s drum will once again ring out over the water as companies, groups, and organisations battle it out in the popular race.

Taking place on 18 April, the race will see 17 participants per crew rowing 250 metres from the Port of Cork sign to the Lapp’s Quay Boardwalk, all to the rhythmic beat of the drum.

No rowing experience is needed to enter the race. A mandatory pre-race training session will take place on 13 April to ensure crews are confident and well prepared for the main event.

Supported by teams ranging from Pfizer and Amazon to Cork City Council, the colourful and fun-filled event aims to give participants the opportunity to get active, build camaraderie, and experience Cork from a new perspective.

The race also serves as a fundraiser for Meitheal Mara, Cork’s community boatyard and maritime training centre. Participation helps fund programmes that provide opportunities for people of all backgrounds, including those at risk of social exclusion.

Entry costs €680 per team of 17 (€40 per person). Spots are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so groups are strongly encouraged to register early by emailing dragons@meithealmara.ie.
