Cowabunga dude!

If surfing is your vibe, the Wild Atlantic Way is perfect for catching some waves. Grab your wetsuit and let’s take a dive into three places for the kooks, experts and in between.

The Sligo coast is calling us, specifically Strandhill which has become the beach to be for surfer dudes and chicks.

According to Gostrandhill.com, Strandhill is generally considered to be one of the best beach breaks in the country and over the years has consistently produced Ireland’s top surfers.

They said: “If you have never surfed and would like to try, you can take a lesson with one of our great local surf schools where all equipment is provided.”

Kerry is next where Inch Beach is lovely for learners and intermediate surfers.

Dingle-peninsula.ie had this to say and who are we to disagree? “Inch is a very popular spot for surfing. The long sandy beach at Inch is exposed and is a good all year round surf spot with a mixture of groundswells and windswells. Local surf schools offer lessons, wetsuit and board hire.”

One for the experts now and that’s Mullaghmore in Sligo, a leading spot for big-wave surfing, with waves reaching up to 15m. Now that’s gnarly!

Thesurfatlas.com said the Mullaghmore surf is famed as Ireland’s answer to Nazare and Jaws.

Be safe out there wherever you take your surfboard.
