Nurse recruitment open day this Saturday
The Mercy University Hospital is offering nurses an opportunity to explore a wide range of roles across one of Cork’s leading university teaching hospitals.
The hospital, which has strong affiliations with UCC and a range of postgraduate training bodies, is continuing to develop its services as it works towards becoming an exemplar of the ‘one hospital, multiple sites’ model.
At the heart of that development, says Director of Nursing Rebecca O’Donovan, is the hospital’s commitment to its staff as well as its patients.
“There are so many opportunities available across the Mercy, and what makes it particularly exciting is the breadth of clinical areas in which nurses can develop their careers,” O’Donovan explained.
“For nurses, it means there is the opportunity to broaden their knowledge, build on their existing skills and gain experience in different areas of practice. We want people to be able to develop professionally while also building a career that is rewarding and fulfilling.”
Professional development is a key part of that approach. The hospital places a strong emphasis on continuous learning, education and training.
O’Donovan says the hospital’s values are central to the working environment it wants to create.
“We are a values-led organisation, and our five core values - compassion, excellence, respect, justice and team spirit - influence everything we do,” she added. “They are reflected in the care we provide to our patients and the communities we serve, but they are equally important in how we work together as colleagues.”
The Mercy is also expanding and developing its services, creating new opportunities for nurses alongside established areas of specialist practice. Among the new developments are the Virtual Ward, the Mercy Regional Rehabilitation Unit in Blarney and expanding endoscopy services.
She also added: “Investing in our nurses is investing in the future of the hospital. When our staff have the opportunity to thrive and develop, that ultimately benefits our patients and the wider community.”
For nurses who want to find out more about what the Mercy has to offer, the hospital’s upcoming Nurse Recruitment Open Day will provide an opportunity to meet directly with the nurse manager and members of the wider multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Those attending will be able to find out about current vacancies, discuss potential roles and ask questions about life and work at the Mercy.
“It is a chance for nurses to come in, meet the people behind the roles and have a conversation about where they might see their career going,” O’Donovan said.
“You don’t necessarily have to know exactly what role you want before you come along. We want people to ask questions, find out what is available and see what opportunities might be the right fit for them.”
The Nurse Recruitment Open Day takes place on Saturday 12 September from 9am to 2pm in the main Mercy hospital building (orange building) on Grenville Place, Cork, T12 WE28.
