Denim skirt from New Look. Neutral suit from Debenhams,

Denim delights this summer!

I have in my spring summer wardrobe a denim jacket and a khaki utility jacket. If you have these two jackets you’ll never be stuck for something to put over an outfit when the weather is warm but you still require a cover up.

They pretty much go with everything with the denim jacket being my essential summer dress jacket and the utility providing me with something a bit more structured to go with jeans or trousers.

A leather jacket is also a good one to have but I find it can be a bit too heavy to wear in the summer months.

Of course jeans feature heavily in the basic capsule wardrobe and I believe I’ve spoken at length about the straight leg which is my new favourite jeans shape, so I won’t go on about that but in the summer I like to update with a denim skirt.

As I’m having a love affair with all things white denim recently, I decided to include a white denim skirt in my fashion arsenal and am looking forward to the temperatures being in double digits so I can wear one.

I’ve gotten a more off white one from Dunnes Stores in a midi style with buttons down the front but I’ve also styled a bright white version from River Island for a recent shoot and it looked great with a gold vest and snake print jacket.

It’s perfect for those days when you’re a bit tired of wearing jeans but the look calls for denim.

A summer suit is also a great item to have in the wardrobe and really you’d be surprised by how much wear you can get out of one of these.

Buy in a good neutral colour and in a light summer fabric and the mix and match potential is endless. It works well with all of the above mentioned items and can be dressed up or down, worn together or as separates.

I also have a few pairs of shoes I wear endlessly in summer especially espadrilles which we all know I love and some woven mules which pretty much work well with everything from denim to suiting. It’s all you need for a perfectly stylish summer wardrobe.
