Zara shorts.

Is that summer I see?

Now I know we’ve all become mighty fond of tracksuits, joggers whatever you want to call them.

So while the weather was chilly, they were absolutely my go-to, easy to wear, comfy trouser of choice. However now that the sun is shining and the temperatures are rising, it’s safe to say that our trusty sweatpants are just that little bit too warm to be wearing during the summer.

So what do we do if it’s not a day that you feel like putting on a dress or skirt but you still want that casual vibe of a jogger? I’ve spotted a few items on the H&M website recently that seem to be the perfect alternatives.

First up are their linen joggers which are great if you like that easy to wear jogger shape but just want a fabric update. They come in a range of great neutrals like navy, black and beige and are so versatile. Style them up with coloured sliders, broderie anglaise blouses or cotton shirts or wear them completely casual with a t-shirt and trainers. The navy and black also look good styled with loafers and shirts and might be a nice alternative for workwear if you’re still able to travel into work. They also have a really nice light denim pair of joggers which look so relaxed and easy to throw on and make a great alternative to both sweatpants and jeans.

I also may have made a little purchase of some wide leg, slightly cropped light lyocell denim trousers. It almost has a chambray, cotton feel to them and so has the look of denim but it’s like wearing something so light and airy which makes it perfect for summer.

As someone who does not tan naturally, I always like to have a trouser alternative for those days when I can’t be bothered to lash on the fake tan and these are just the ticket. I’ll be wearing with some of my embroidered vintage peasant blouses that I’ve collected over the years and with my v-neck t-shirts. All you need is a pair or espadrilles or hiking sandals and your look is complete.

Just add a khaki military jacket if you need a cover up in the evenings.

Now one thing I’ve always found problematic in the summer is shorts but there’s no denying they are comfortable, so maybe it’s time I invest in a pair even if I only ever wear them around the house.

I’m never going to be rocking hot pants or denim knickers as I like to call them but I have seen a really nice mom-jeans style in Zara. They come up high on the waist, are slouchy and look roomy on the leg to accommodate all sorts of thighs. I think you could really smarten them up with a plain t-shirt, blazer and a pair of mules which would be a cool summer night out outfit for when we finally make it to the beer gardens!
