Tell us about your career progression to your role today:

I always enjoyed business as a subject in school and developed a keen interest in marketing while studying my undergraduate and masters degrees. I landed my first marketing role with CIT. I spent almost two years with CIT before I moved to Dublin and worked with Nestlé Ireland & UK, one of the largest global FMCG companies in the world. My role as Shopper Marketing Executive with Nestlé gave me a great insight into the retail world. I spent a year and a half with the company before I relocated back to Cork and am now work as the Marketing Manager with Maxi Zoo Ireland. It’s a perfect fit as I love animals as much as Maxi Zoo does.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of what you do?

I get to work on great initiatives with Maxi Zoo that gives back to animals in need. A great example of this is Maxi Zoo’s CSR 'Give Paw – Friendship Connects' campaign, which aims to raise vital funds for pet charities in need. When I joined the company in February 2017, the company was fresh off a successful campaign that raised over €5,000 for various pet charities across the country. In 2017, my target was to double this figure which was achieved, and in 2018, my target was to double this again which was also achieved by raising over €25,000. Maxi Zoo is currently running the campaign again for 2019 and the aim is to raise over €50,000 for Dogs Trust Ireland.

What motivates you?

My wife, my friends and my work colleagues. I always surround myself with positive people. I’m lucky to say the people around me motivate me to be better every day and to never take anything for granted.

What advice would you give your 15 year old self?

Don’t panic, everything has a way of working itself out. When I was 15 I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I was older. I had an interest in business as a subject but never knew what marketing was. Thankfully my parents and siblings were great at providing advise and the best thing I was told was to 'do what you love'. If you do what you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.

If you weren’t in the job you have, what would you be doing?

Fitness coach or gym owner. Fitness is something I developed a keen interest in during my late teens. I do a mixture of weights and cardio activity three-four times per week. A healthy body leads to a healthy mindset.

What is your greatest life or career achievement to-date?

My greatest life achievement is finding my wife. I’m glad to say I married my best friend. My greatest career achievement is running my own marketing department within Maxi Zoo. I have a great team of four people that make marketing fun.
