St Patrick's Bridge will be closed to traffic from tomorrow evening until early Monday morning to facilitate essential water work

St Patrick's Bridge closure

St Patrick’s Bridge will be closed to traffic this weekend to facilitate essential water works.

One lane between St Patrick’s Quay and Camden Quay, crossing the junction of St Patrick’s Bridge and Bridge Street, will close to facilitate these works.

Due to this requirement, St Patrick’s Bridge will be closed to traffic, however pedestrian access and crossings to Bridge Street will still be possible.

The works, which will be undertaken by Irish Water, will aim to tackle leakage and improve water supply in the area.

“Water network improvement works are progressing well in many locations across Cork city. We would like to thank local residents and businesses for their ongoing cooperation,” said Steven Blennerhassett, Leakage Reduction Programme, Irish Water.

As the works can be completed within one lane closure, traffic flow will be maintained along the quays in the direction of Camden Quay with signage and local diversions in place.

St Patrick’s Bridge will close from 7.30pm Friday evening until 6am Monday morning.

The works are part of a new 3.8km pipeline from the east of the city and the development of the Eastern Strategic Link water main.

Once complete, the Eastern Strategic Link trunk water main will provide the capacity to re-route supply from other water treatment plants in the event of a large burst, or other unplanned incident.
