Gardaí appeal for witnesses following two assaults


Gardaí are appealing for witnesses in relation to an assault incident that took place on Grand Parade at approximately 12.15am this morning 

A man in his late teens was taken to CUH with what is believed to be serious injuries while a man in his early 20s was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at Mayfield Garda Station under Section 4 of the criminal Justice Act, 1984. 

Furthermore Gardaí are also appealing for witnesses in relation to an alleged assault incident that occurred on St Patrick Street shortly after 9pm last night. A man in his 40s was brought to CUH where his condition is understood to be serious.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Patrick Street area from 8-9.15pm and who may have witnessed any incident, no matter how insignificant they think it is, as well as anyone who may have witnessed the Grand Parade incident to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021-4522000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda station.

Elsewhere €60,000 worth of cocaine has been seized by an Garda Siochána in Newmarket. Along with the drug haul, a suspected imitation firearm was also seized during a search of a home in Newmarket yesterday evening. Shortly after 9pm, Gardaí from the Mallow District Drugs Unit, Regional Support Unit and Regional Dog Unit, carried out a search of the house and during the course of the search, Gardaí seized suspected cocaine and the imitation firearm which will both be sent for analysis. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
