Gardaí reduced on Dunne case
The number of gardaí investigating the murder of Frankie Dunne has been reduced as the investigation continues.
Speaking at the Joint Policing Committee this week, Chief Superintendent Barry McPolin said: “Our investigation team are still in the process of interviewing witnesses, and examining CCTV footage. We’re putting the picture together of the last movements of Mr Dunne, and following up various lines of inquiry. We have in excess of 30 detectives on the team. That will be reducing now, that’s the norm. We dedicate a large number at the start of the investigation between the forensics people and detectives.”
Mr Dunne's body was discovered in a derelict property on Boreenmanna Road in late December. Gardaí were eager to speak to a person of interest who left the country soon after Mr Dunne’s death. Gardaí then contacted Interpol and believe the man travelled to Eastern Europe.
“It’s an ongoing investigation. It’s still relatively early on in the investigation, but there has been a huge volume of work done,” continued Superintendent McPolin.
Mr Dunne was laid to rest last week in a service held at Saint Mary’s on the Hill Church, Knocknaheeny.
